Schools Outreach Work

Primary Schools

The UST Outreach Programme delivers support to primary schools in the planning and delivery of science curricula and workshops. In particular, there is a focus on STEM based learning and the development of practical skills and team working. Sessions can take place on site at primary schools or at one of our secondary schools. The work involves students in all yeargroups and provides continuity in learning enabling children to grow in confidence and understanding as they prepare for secondary school.

“Our children look forward to the Outreach sessions, afterwards the school is buzzing! We look forward to having a greater knowledge of what is available for each year group so we can plan ahead and modify our SOW to fit in more STEM outreach.”

“The outreach project has been such a help for us. Even though the last few years have been tricky, Richard has supported us with inspirational lessons through videos and a Live-Lab. The children love the fact they are working with a ‘real scientist’ who they might meet in secondary school – it is lovely to see this bond develop. I feel very lucky to have worked with Richard and the outreach project and hope to do so again soon!”

“Children were engaged and excited with the investigations they carried out, in all year groups. They had clear instructions and each investigation was relevant to what they were learning. Children were introduced to new scientific language. There was good problem solving by the children. Dr Metcalfe left the school buzzing, with many children saying (and parents) they had a brilliant science lesson.”

“Outreach from The Magna Carta School has had a huge impact on the love of science in our school. Thank you for bringing science to life!”

“Dr Metcalfe has been inspirational, approachable and an invaluable contact and our school has been incredibly grateful for his time, energy and enthusiasm in such an unsettling year. Long may our relationship continue!”

“The outreach programme has inspired not just a few children but whole classes. Without it the children wouldn’t be able to extend their understanding- the enthusiasm, motivation and subject knowledge of Dr Metcalfe is extraordinary and infectious. The equipment we are lent in year 6 is essential to meet the children’s needs. I cannot express how valuable the outreach programme is to primary schools like ourselves. It should be protected and cherished.”

UST also provides school improvement support to its constituent academies by working with colleagues to ensure leaders, teachers and support staff are able to deliver the best possible outcomes for all our students. This support covers core service areas like finance and operations, as well as support in the planning, preparation and delivery of staff training. The Central Services Team offer mentoring and coaching support to their colleagues as well as leading school to school support networks and supportive monitoring and review visits.
